THE PROJECT
One year of work. One watch.
RTJ-01 took over a year to create - from the first sketch, through dozens of CAD versions, to a physical model that finally made it onto the wrist. This was never a rushed project. Every detail - the case proportions, the bevel angle, the dial layout, the choice of lume - had to pass the same test: is it genuinely better, or just different? I wanted a watch I wouldn't be embarrassed to wear every day, one that stands on its quality rather than its label. That's why a Swiss Sellita SW200-1 SA automatic works beneath the sapphire crystal, the case is made of 316L steel, and the indices and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova BGW9. RTJ-01 is the debut of Rataj Watches - an independent Polish watch microbrand from Wrocław. Designed from scratch in Poland, made in a limited run of 100 numbered pieces. Each number assigned to one person. It's a watch built around a single principle: better to make a hundred properly than a thousand carelessly.
HOW IT WAS MADE
From idea to final model

Where the idea began
It started with assembling watches from off-the-shelf parts, but they lacked quality. I decided to design a watch from the ground up. Together with a friend, over more than a year, we created RTJ-01, learning everything hands-on - from measurements to 3D prototypes. We consulted every detail with watchmakers to reach the highest possible quality.
DESIGN
Designing in CAD
Every element started in 3D. Dozens of iterations of the case, dial and chamfers - proportions refined millimeter by millimeter until everything came together. The CAD model allowed us to nail the details before the first piece of steel was cut: index placement, the geometry of the dodecagonal bezel and a bracelet that perfectly complements the watch's raw aesthetic.
PROTOTYPE
The first piece
The file on the computer finally became a real watch. The first prototype verified what you can't see on a screen - the weight on the wrist, the Swiss Sellita automatic working beneath the sapphire, the glow of BGW9 lume in the dark. After further refinements, RTJ-01 took its final form: 100 numbered pieces ready for production.

THE HEART OF THE WATCH
Sellita SW200-1 SA Anthracite
A Swiss automatic in a special anthracite finish - visible through the sapphire case back. The rotor, wheels and bridges in a dark, technical finish that plays off the black of the whole design. A proven movement with a solid reputation, chosen so the RTJ-01 runs reliably for years. The movement is produced to our order.

My name is Igor Rataj, I'm 24 years old, originally from Kalisz but currently living in Wrocław. I'm an engineer, and watches have been my passion for years - it was from that passion that the idea was born to design my own watch instead of buying yet another one.
Rataj Watches is an independent Polish watch brand from Wrocław. RTJ-01 was born out of a passion for watches - it's a fully original design that I led from the first sketch all the way to the finished watch, with the support of a trusted friend. Every detail, from the shape of the case to the choice of movement, was refined until everything fit together perfectly. The result is a single model, made without compromise and produced in a limited series of 100 numbered pieces.
